Remove Drain Pump from Whirlpool washer

I need to replace the drain pump. I’ve removed the cover of the washer, taken the clips off the pump and disconntected the hoses. Howver, the pump won’t budge at all.

With no model number I assuming you have the basic direct drive Whirlpool. The pump will pull off the motor shaft, but if it has been leaking it will “weld” itself to the shaft with rust.

Thanks - It’s a Whirlpool Ultimate Care Heavy Duty Super Capacity Plus. I couldn’t find the model number anywhere. If it has “weld” itself to the shaft - how do I undo it? I’ve tried WD40 - and also tried a hammer to loosen it. Do I just use the hammer a little more forcefully but not too much so I don’t break the shaft?

I assume you have taken off the two clips, in which case you just have to whack it until it comes loose, but take care not to damage the motor or anything else. It is ok if you damage the pump since you will be replacing it anyways.

I would hold the motor and pump and with the start switch on the other side, use a hammer and pound the pump off, the entire pump should break free. Be careful to avoid hitting the motor, could crack the epoxy. Be careful, if you bust the pump, the impeller will stay on the motor shaft and will be hard to remove.
Check the motor bearings, if any lateral play, the motor must be replaced.

Thanks - it’s in a vacation home so I’ll try it in a few weeks
