Refrigerator won’t shut off

I picked up an older frig for the basement, I did have to move the frig lying on its left side for about a 30 minuet drive. I set it upright again and did let it sit for a day before I started it. The frig freezes and cools just fine but will not shut off. It does turn off when I move the control knob to off, then I wait a minuet and turn it back on and it will just run continuously until I repeat the process. I checked the cooling fins and they are reasonably clean. I have unplugged it now as I feel it is rather unsafe to have it run continuously.

Replace your temp control.

Thank you, that’s what i thought. next question is that a hard job? I am pretty handy but have never touched a frig. Is the part pricy?

No, it’s not that hard. If you need directions or part numbers I can assist you.

Thanks again
I pulled the temp control and got the part #. It looks like around 50 bucks for a new control. now to decide if the frig is worth putting more $$ into.

If that’s all that’s wrong I would fix it, you can’t buy a decent frig for $50!
