Refrigerator Smoking and not cooling

This morning when I got up, there was smoke in the kitchen, I was uncertain what it was. I now know that it was from the refrigerator. This afternoon, I opened it up and everything was de-thawing. So I guess this morning, something burnt up. I am uncertain how to find the problem. Please help.

I would replace the overload and relay kit, that is mounted on the refrigerator. Tom

I am uncertain what to order or if it is even worth the fix

Take the white piece off the compressor, and that is the part to replace. The part # is 8201786. That part goes out all the time. It is cheap, and worth you doing it. The part Is not more that about $45.00 to 60.00 depending on where you get. Its either you take the c hance, or buy a new refrigerator. Your chances for success is about 90%. Tom

Thank you for your help, I found a local company that had a universal replacement part and I put it on and it is cooling and working again. Part was only 27.55 with tax. Can’t bet that.

That is the way to save the cas. Great Job!!! Glad to help!!! Tom ApplianceEducator.com
