Refrigerator not cooling

My refrigerator quit working yesterday. No cooliing from refrigerator or freezer. Fans work blow warm air. Had a repair guy come out and his diagnosis was that the control board was bad. The compressor was trying to start and he couldn’t tell if the compressor was still good. The only way to find out was to order the aprt and install it. I tried to locate the control board or controller online but cannot find anything close to that. He made it sound like it was the computer that controlled the refrigerator’s function. Anyone have any idea?

Your refrigerator is pretty simple. It does not have any electronic devices.

If the compressor is clicking, very likely the problem is a bad start relay/overload. There is a small chance for the compressor to be bad as well.

Due to inexpensive start relay/overload, I would replace it first.

Thanks Gene. That makes sense. I am not sure what this guy was talking about then. All I know is that he was going to charge me $400 to try to fix it. Sounds like a lot for a $40 part.

Thanks again,
Dan

Gene. I was able to eventually install the kit tonight. The fridge appears to be working! Do you or anyone else know how the old harness plug is supposed to fit inside the new cover? There’s a piece of plastic sticking out which prevents it from going all the way in. It seems that plastic would need to be cut to make it fit. The old harness dangling at the moment. Thanks!

You can do with this cover whatever you want. It would not hurt anything.

I ended up cutting the white wire connected to the harness and crimping a new insulated connector (Lowe’s) to it then I connected it directly to the relay. I would recommend to anyone using this kit to do the same and save a lot of tinkering time. I can’t see how the old harness was going to fit in that box along with the new relay. Fridge works like a charm. Thanks again… Now if I could just get my A/C fixed…
