Refrigerator not cooling, but freezer is working

we have a haier hrf14 and our freezer was working but the fridge wasn’t so inside the freezer we took the back off to check the coils the fan inside the freezer had got condensaton on it and rusted up a little bit, we broke it loose and put wd40 on it and needless to say they are both working great now. Just thought that we would share that with you because we have children and a limited income and couldn’t afford to get a new one or but new parts,.

Hello,
I have a side by side Fridgidare FRS24WRC. I had a problem a few months ago where the fridge didn’t cool at all but the freezer seemed to work. I checked the condenser coils in the freezer and performed a manual defrost. and it seemed to work fine de icing the coils. The refrigerator side seems to cool just enough to keep food but the condenser seems to run all the time.
There is verry little cool air coming from the diffuser and the fan on the freezer side seems to be working fine.

any Ideas why the box continues to run. It shuts off every two minutes then starts again for approximately 10 min.

I am having the same problem with a Whirlpool Model# GS6SHEXNS00. I found the coils frosted, the indoor air control was frozen, and I removed the louver cab and it had frost inside. I cant find the defrost control or timer, can someone please help me find the part #s for the defrost heater, controller, etc.
Thanks,
Ted

Hi Ted,

Perform the troubleshooting as described in the tech sheets and post the results.

I have a GE TBX 2I and the freezer is ice cold, however the fridge is super warm (65-70.) I am concerned because I don’t have any ice anywhere, however there is condensation that is building up. I pulled off the panel in the freezer, no ice. No ice on coils, no ice in vents, no ice on fans…

What am I to do?

Mike

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it’s open.

Check your model number. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/img/mod_refer_side.gif

I have a Maytag MSD2456GEQ side-by-side. I have been having the same problem, freezer working but refrigerator not working. There was no air coming into refrigerator section. Everytime I would defrost the freezer, the refrigerator side would work for a few days, then the air would stop flowing through again. This time I opened up the back panel of the freezer and found the coils were frosted up. From this thread it looks like most likely it is the defrost system. Is this something I can fix on my own? What parts will I specifically need? and where in the appliance are these parts located?

Please help!!!

Hello all.

I am encountering the same issue. Refrigerator is cool but not cold and the freezer is just fine. This is a Kenmore Model Freezer on top, fridge on bottom.
Currently I can feel some cold air coming through the vent in the fridge part, but the strength of the air flow isn’t that strong. Is that normal? I can’t find any manuals or parts break down based on my model info from the metal plate on the inside of the fridge.

I have already cleaned off the condenser line along with the fan at the bottom of the fridge. Another thing I have already read off this post and tried is removed the back cover inside the freezer and lubricated the fan with spray. The fan seems to be running fine now, previously I noticed that it wasn’t running at all until I knocked on the plastic cover.

Please HELP!

Kenmore (made for Sears)
Model Number: 970-418529
Serial Number: BA60632450
About 6 years old approx.

Thanks in advance.

have kenmore 970560970 snf freezer works but ref does not. Coils are freezing after a few days and then there is no air flow. My question is how to determine if its the timer, thermostat or heater.
Thanks

I have an Amana bottom freezer ARB2214CW - about 8 years old. Had same problem. Fridge died but freezer is just fine.

Repair tech out yesterday showed me frozen freezer coils and replaced thermostat (said heater was fine). Could see thermostat housing had swelled and ruptured. Bottom coils under the fridge are clean. Still, 15 hours post repair fridge temp is not at all improved.

I have to drop another lump of cash on a repair visit - any ideas for parts I can replace myself? Just seems like cold air is not moving into the fridge and I suspect some kind of fan or motor problem but what are the odds both fan and thermostat would fail simultaneously?

The problem is not solved, the diagnostic is not done properly - why do you have to pay?

Gene.

ahhh…I mistyped originally - should have been “hate to pay”…but, problem remained - thermostat was replaced but no cool air. That said, after reading through these threads all morning I self-diagnosed and determined I needed to try the evaporator fan motor. Local repair shop had one in stock, grabbed at lunch, drove home in the evening and, thanks to the schematics on this site, pulled the thing apart and switched the motor and fan in a matter of minutes. Presto. Cold air, refrigerator operating perfectly. Saved me either $1800 on a new fridge or another $150 on a repair call, either way you dice it.

Which leads me back to the original service call. They don’t want to hear my complaint which is, even if the thermostat needed replacing (and I believe them - I saw the coils encased in ice and the ruptured thermostat) shouldn’t the repairman have plugged the thing in prior to reassembly just to ensure the fan was blowing (or stuck his hand in front of the fridge vent to ensure air was moving)? Lesson learned. Next time (hoping there isn’t one) I’ll come here first.

So - back to the original question, though - would failure of thermostat cause the fan motor to go - or vice versa?

The fan motor has nothing to do with the thermostat. They are absolutely separate.

I’m glad you were able to diagnose and fix it it. Good job!

I have a HOTPOINT fridge, model number HTS22GBMARWW

I have noticed a weird buzzing noise from my fridge the past couple weeks. The freezer works just fine. My wife opened the fridge last night and the fridge was warm. At first I thought she just left the door open but found out the fridge wasn’t cooling. My first thought was a filter or vent but then thought that if it was a vent the freezer wouldn’t be working. I can hear the compressor behind the fridge running. However, instead of a quiet hum, it’s sounds like an aggressive loud hum. Any Ideas. I don’t have an ice maker.

What is the exact temperature in the freezer?

Can you pinpoint that noise?

Have a maytag msd2641keb side by side. coils ok. frig warm freezer cold cleared return area of ice and frost, fan starte bac up, but stopped when freezer door was closed. some frost forming on back bottom wall of freezer.

I have a GE TBFM17VC refrigerator that I inherited and am having issues with. The freezer will cool down to 2.0 deg F on coldest setting, but the fridge maintains the same temp of 50deg despite cooling setting. Nothing is in the fridge except some beer, and there is no ice on the back panel in the freezer, also the freezer fan is blowing strong. I can not detect any fan movement in the fridge. Whats my next step? Thanks.
Don

Sorry for the delay.

Remove the rear panel in the freezer and check how the evaporator is covered with snow. Post the results.
