I need to know whether my refrigerator is worth repairing or should be replaced. For the past 6 mos or more I have noticed water dripping into the refrigerator from the upper back portion, most likely from the freezer.
I thought it might be an icemaker problem but when I turned the water off to the icemaker, the problem continued to get worse. Yesterday, I mopped up almost a gallon of water from the inside bottom of the fridge and the crisper bins. Some of it had actually turned to ice. The fridge and freezer are/and always have been set at the factory settings.
I also clean the condenser regularly so I’m at a loss as to what might be wrong. I could request a service call but do not want to pay for a new condenser if this should be the problem. I’d rather replace the refrigerator as it is just a simple model with no fancy gadgets, etc before sinking too much money into what could be a costly repair job.
I would appreciate any suggestions, advice, or ideas as to what might be the problem and very grateful if this ends up being a relatively simple and inexpensive repair.
Water dripping inside from the freezer is typically a simple repair. First make sure both doors are closing properly. If warm air is leaking in you can get excess water from the defrost. Second, make sure the drain tube is not blocked. There is a drain tube that runs down the back wall of the refrigerator to drain the defrost water from the freezer into a drain pan located at the back on top of the compressor. Some times crumbs from the freezer can plug this drain and that casues the water to stop draining down the tube and run down the back wall and pool under the crispers. Technicians will normally blow compressed air up the drain tube from the bottom to clear it. You can look in the cup just under the freezer floor in the top of the refrigerator section to see if its plugged there but this is difficult because you can break it off if not careful.
I reccomend you call your local appliance repair man to come fix it for you. It’s an easy fix and should be a minimum charge.

I cleaned out the drain on mine, and it plugged up again within a week. I am going to check the defrost circuit and heater. I think the water freezes in the pan and drain, and overflows. Maybe the heater is not defrosting and melting the water in the pan?
