Refrigerator is freezing

The temperature set points are 3 F for the freezer and 42 F for the fridge. A thermometer reads 14 F for the freezer and 34 F for the fridge. I assume this means the vent/damper is not working. Any thoughts on how to confirm this and what parts to replace? Thank you

Freezer temperature too high, remove freezer back panel and describe frost pattern, defrost if total, heavy frost.

Thanks for the reply. I gave some incorrect information. I realize the digital thermometer I was using had 14 F as a minimum. I have since used a better thermometer and the temp of the freezer is about 2 F.
Since my last reply, I ran the automatic diagnostics and nothing failed. The same day I covered the vents with electrical tape. The refrigerator is now holding steady at 38 F. Does this mean the vent/damper is not working?

Check to see if the damper door is stuck open. If ok, you might have a bad fresh food thermistor, or a bad electronic module.

Sorry for my limited knowledge, but can you tell me how to check the damper and where it is located?

You will see a vent in the refrigerator section, upper, left. Remove the cover screws to expose the damper door.
You can turn the fresh food thermostat back and forth to see if the damper door will open and close.
