Refrigerator and Freezer not Running

Brand:Whirlpool
Model Number: WRF560SFYM00
Main Symptom:Refrigerator and freezer not cooling
What happens & when: The fan is running but not sure if the compressor is running. It is not making any noise, no clicking sounds and no vibration, so it appears that it is not running. Could it be the start relay and the capacitor - based on other’s comments?

Yup, that very well could be the start device WPW10194431 and capacitor WPW10662129. The way this thing is wired the condense fan and compressor should always be running at the same time.

You can check for voltage at the compressor from red wire to white wire for 120v AC, that’s what you should be getting if the condenser fan is running.

If that’s the case you can disconnect the fridge from power and remove the start device. Once that’s off shake it, if it sounds like sand, gravel, or nickels rattling around in there your start device has definitely failed, but even if it doesn’t I would try those before thinking the compressor or another sealed system issue.

You can also check the resistance value of the start and run windings while you’re here with the start device off and power disconnected. Each of those should read about 5-6Ωs and about 10-12Ωs across both of them together.
