Refrigerator and freezer not cooling

Refrig. and freezer quit cooling, does blow cool air, but not cold enough. Refrig. about 48 degrees, freezer 40 degrees. I replaced the defrost timer, hasn’t helped. This unit was worked on when it was less then a year old. It has a cap on the freon line, possibly repairman added freon. I checked the condenser coils, they are clean, no ice or frost. The freon line running into the condenser is covered in ice. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi.

What do you call “condenser”?

The evaporator coils are located in the freezer. The condenser coils are next to the compressor.
Did you open and check the evaporator coils?

Simon.

Sorry about that. It is the evaporator coils in the freezer that the line is froze up. I thawed it out and plugged refrig. back in. Within 1 hour the small line going to the evaporator coils was frosting up.

Hi.

Open the evaporator cover and check the frost pattern on the coils. If it’s only partially frosted or has an ice build up in one corner - there is a sealed system problem and you need a professional.
