punctured hole in freezer

hi all,
hope you can help me.
I was cleaning my fridge freezer out and as i scrpaed away some ice, I have puncutured a small hole in the freezer walls. Ys that was dumb.
There was immdiate loss of ‘gas’ but i have covered this with tape and the freezer is working again, however I am worried that there may be constant ‘gas’ leak and how dangerous this may be?
Should I just turn it off and throw it away or is this a bit over the top and the freezer wont blow up on me??? help!!!
Thanks

If it’s less than a year old. the gas is probably R134A, which is non-toxic, and not harmful to the ozone layer. However, You will need to replace the evaporator and possibly also the compressor. Expensive work.
