I have a kitchen aid dishwasher that was used 2 weeks past its 1 year warrantee and it started leaking. I finally removed the motor and pump, inspected for cracks because the water was pouring out. from the pump area. I ordered and installed a Volute seal and still leaked. When I took it apart to put the new seal in I noticed a rust spot between the Volute Back and Motor. I want to confirm there is a seal on the Volute Back? Should I order the Impeller assembly (part #22 in picture) or whirlpool number AP3738238. I also would like to know how to remove the Impeller? Thank you for your help.
Hi,
The impeller screws on and it’s probably pretty tight. You should also order part numbers #22 & 30 when the seal is replaced.
Hope that helps.

is the impeller a reverse thread? do the impellers always screw on?
yes they usually do screw on and if memory serves it is revers threaded.

Can the seal leak water?
If it’s twisted, gets something behind it or cracked then yes, just like a seal in a car, over time they can leak
