Pump impeller removal

How Is The Impeller ( Item 24 ) On The Diagram Removed. Is It Pressed On The Shaft Or Threaded?

It is pressed on but due to water leak and rust many times it’s not possible to pull it out. I usually used a chisel to break it in pieces.

Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool dishwasher Model GU980SCGB3

Thank you. I guess there is a sl=pline or a flat on the shaft. Do I need to replace the seal under this? It is not leaking but I guess it would be a good idea while I am into it. Can this can be gotten from the top? Or do I need to remove the motor?

One of seals is a part of this impeller. If you are going to break it then you have to replace all seals and impellers. Just buy a drain and wash impeller kit and follow the installation instructions included in the kit.

Some time it could be done from the top and some time not. It’s hard to predict.

Once the front cap of the pump body is unscrewed (RH threads), the brass top of the impeller assy. can be removed with vise grips and a hammer. Use a Dremel tool with either a saw or cutter wheel to cut around the impeller shaft
at several depths. After each cut remove the top section. Once you are below the flats on the shaft the impeller should turn freely and can be lifted out. The chisel method is OK, but care must be taken not to damage the pump body or motor housing (plastic).
