Problem with "start" switch

The “start” switch of my dryer moved into the backsplash area due to a broken peice of plastic. When I was opening the backsplash, the power cable was still connected and the start switch feel into the metallic portion of backsplash with a small popping sound and a small portion of the metal turned black. Now I see that the dryer does not start when I try to manually turn the start switch.

  1. I’d appreciate if anyone can let me know if they ran into this kind of issue before what they did to address the problem.
  2. Should I try ordering a new start switch (assuming that the previous one short circuited) and will that fix the issue or could there be something else that could get damaged as a result of this short circuit?
  3. Is there anything else that need to be done apart from changing the start swictch - like resetting or replacing a fuse?

Thanks in advance.

You were taking the console apart with a broken switch inside and you didn’t unplug it first?..tsk tsk. The switch mounting tab on the control panel is probably broken. Check the switch with an ohmmeter and see if you have continuity between terminals 2 and 4 when you turn the switch. Or… take the two wires off the switch, set the dryer on timed dry and briefly touch the two wires together. If the dryer doesn’t start there are other problems.
