After moving into a new apartment I noticed that the light inside the oven was not working. I replaced the bulb and shut the oven door and unfortunately the light continued to glow.
There is a small button just inside the door that, when depressed, shuts the light off. At the point on the door that is supposed to come into contact with the button there is a small hole about 1/2" in diameter. I’m not sure why the hole is there (as it prevents the button from being pushed), but I think there should be some kind of flat plug to push the button as the door closes.
The problem is that I have no idea where to get such a plug.
Also, I tried duct tape but it didn’t last long–it got too hot and the button just pushed through it. I’ve got another idea that involves a flat piece of metal and a couple paper clips but I’d rather not go that route.
Measure the hole size.
Then go to a hardware/lumber store.
Go to the fasteners area they usually have some racks with miscellaneous hardware.
You should be able to find a hole plug there.
Okay the hole is plugged. For anyone interested here’s what I did:
The actual hole is between 1/2" and 9/16" in diameter (closer to 9/16", maybe 13 mm or 14 mm). Home Depot had the plugs denman suggested in 1/2" and 5/8" diameters. Unsure which one would fit, I bought both for about $3.00. First, I tried the 1/2" and found it had way to much play. Then, I tried the 5/8" and had to force it in, bending all the tabs over in the process–the plug promptly fell out as soon as I closed the door. So, working with the 5/8" plug, I used a pair of needle-nose pliers to bend some of the tabs over and then re-bent them to make the plug the right size. (Some of the tabs I didn’t use at all and just bent them all the way over to save some time.)
And thanks for getting back to us. Now when others search for a similar problem they will see what actually worked instead of just suggestions about what could be the cause.
