Somehow, the overfill protection float in my Whirlpool dishwasher came off during the last cycle I ran…and it melted on the heating element. Do you know whether or not it is a simple replacement? I’ve read an online manual for a similar dishwasher, and it sounds like it simply snaps into place. Any help you can offer on that matter would also be appreciated. Also, any ideas you have about how or why it came off would interest me greatly.
Sorry, but it’s not quite that easy.
There should have been a self threading nut(washer) screwed or pressed onto the float shaft(it may have fell off the float shaft) .

To properly install the float assembly,
You will need to remove the kickplate and lower access panel.
Insert the float into the guide assembly, and attach the nut/washer to the shaft from underneath side of tub bottom.
