Oven Wire to Element - Conductor exposed by spade plug

Hi Everyone. I’m new here.

I need to find out if on a wire that feeds the lower oven element, if it’s exposed is there:

  1. no need for concern
  2. heat shrink over this will suffice and be plenty safe
    OR
  3. required an oven pull to replace the wire (Big job as this is a built-in double oven, but would rather be safe than sorry)

Here is the wire:

Thanks for any help on this!

Rick

Can you pull the wire any further into the oven?

I would not trust this.
Looks like a couple wires have already broken off and the insulation has overheated to the point of melting back the insulation.
If you can pull it further into the oven cut back the wire till you get to good insulation and clean wire then replace the connector.

If you can pull the wire into the oven but it is too short to get in there and replace the connector you should be able to add a wire and connector to the existing wire. Again cut it back to where the insulation is good and then I would use a wire nut to connect the two wires together. I would use the bakelite (hi-temp) wire nut with the brass insert that has a screw to hold the wires.

No, I cannot pull it out any further. Surprising really that the wire is this short. Or maybe someone trimmed it and put a new connector on it prior to us purchasing this house almost 7yrs ago.

I may be able to use a high temp wire nut like you suggested. What type of wire do I need to use to splice it?

If I cannot do this in a manner that satisfies me mentally, I guess it’s time to pull the ovens

Thank you very much for the assistance!
