Oven will not light

OK already!! I’m a tightwad and this old oven fits my kitchen perfectly and has given us years of faithful service and I’m not buying a new one!

The broiler will light fine but the oven will not.

The igniter comes on and after several minutes a very low phu phu phu noise can be heard but the oven is not actually lit.

Visual inspection of the burner when the noise is heard shows a very small weak puffing flame with the same rythm as the noise located at the igniter.

My theory is the boiler/oven gas valve is bad, because the igniter comes on, there is some gas getting to the burner unit and igniting and this happened suddenly.

I just need another opinion from someone who has more experience then me. I fix cars for a living not appliances and am having a little trouble pulling the trigger on a part that cost thi$ much.

Any help out there?

Work On

I cornered a fellow church member and pressed him for an answer and his reply was to try an igniter. Even if it appears to glow it may not be hot enough! They are way cheaper then a gas valve and easier to install!

After installing the igniter the stove burner came on very quickly. I saved my old reliable stove and many dollar$.
