Brand: Model Number:rf263lxtq3 Main Symptom: oven shuts off when preheat various temperature What happens & when:when I turn the oven on sometimes during the preheat cycle or whatever temperature I select, the oven will beep and shut off, it will display the time, but the oven itself will shut off and stop cooking

For Whirlpool RF263LXTQ3, the fact that the display stays on and returns to the clock, but the bake cycle cancels itself makes me lean more toward the oven control/temperature-sensing circuit than a simple bad bake element. This model uses an electronic oven control, an oven temperature sensor, and a separate safety thermostat. PartSelect
I’d start with these checks:
Watch exactly what happens when it quits. If it beeps, drops out of BAKE/PREHEAT, and immediately shows the clock—as though someone pressed Cancel—that strongly points toward the electronic control/touchpad. A failed bake element normally causes poor/no heating; it shouldn’t normally make the control cancel the cooking cycle.
Check the oven temperature sensor. Disconnect power, unplug the sensor and measure its resistance at room temperature. You should get roughly 1,080–1,100 Ω around 70°F. Also wiggle the sensor harness while measuring it. An intermittent sensor connection can give the control a bad temperature signal. The sensor listed for this model is WPW10181986. PartSelect
Inspect the wiring behind the control, especially the sensor connector and bake/broil connections. Look for a loose terminal, browned connector, or heat-damaged wire.
If the sensor and wiring check good, I would put the electronic oven control/touchpad high on the suspect list. The control listed for this model is W10840298. PartSelect
One useful clue: does it tend to shut off at about the same oven temperature each time, or is it completely random? If it consistently quits as the oven gets hot, I’d investigate the sensor/safety circuit and heat affecting the control. If it quits at completely random temperatures and simply returns to the clock, I’d lean more strongly toward the control board/touchpad. techsheet-w10361708-reva.pdf (257.6 KB)
