For about a year or so I have had difficulty with the oven racks slipping off the groove. If the rack is secure on one side, it is almost falling off on the other side. I thought that the problem may have been that at one point I ran the clean cycle with the racks in. I bought new racks, thinking that the heat had damaged them. The new racks fit exactly like the old ones did. The problem is not the racks, it is the oven. Somehow the inside of the oven must have expanded slightly. What do you suggest?
I,
Yes, your oven cavity has warped outwards, it may or may not, be due to the racks were in during a S/C cycle.
You may want to try this oversized rack,
I think it will work for you.
Good Luck,
Thank you, Joe! I may be missing something but when I look at the picture of the rack that you posted, it looks like it is 23" across. My oven is 24" across and now that it has warped outward, actually needs racks that are 24 1/4" across. Do you know of a rack that would work in this case?
I,
The largest oven rack I have on file for your unit is 23 1/32" wide.
I do have a rack from a different brand range that is larger,
It is approximately 24" X 15"
***On your measurement, did you allow 1/16" to 1/8" for expansion and contraction of the rack, when it’s in the oven ? ***
As a last resort,
You may want to return to the AppliancePartsPros.com sight, use the Common Parts order screen, and enter “Oven Rack”, in the parts description header.
You’ll need to use the "grid"squares as an approximate measurement, and order the appropriate sized rack, and compare it visually to the rack in your range.
Good Luck,
Will the 24" rack you sighted work in Frigidaire oven, by my measure need at least 24 " needed. Could a machine shop weld extension safely…
Thanks

Ottotom,
I wouldn’t count on a shop being able to weld an extension on a rack, safely, or without more damage, than it’s worth.
An oven rack, is an oven rack, as long as the configuration is simillar, they’
re universal fit.
As I said, in the previous post, go to the APP Parts home page, select “common parts”, type in “oven rack”, there are several pages of part numbers, with pictures and dimensions, in most cases.
Good Luck,
Hey Joe,
I followed the link from the blog page for AP2031136, and received a GE
WB48k5022…is it the same one? Reason I asked is it is less then 24"…too
small and needs to go back…have any recommendations?
Thanks,
Otto

Otto,
There can be as much as a 1/8 in. difference in the actual rack dimensions, but that should not create a major problem,
As I said in the previous post, under "oven rack " in our “Common Parts” heading, we have over 300 oven racks and rack accessories.
You may need to measure the oven cavity, from wall to wall, at the widest area, deduct 1/8 inch from the width, and review the list, using the grid system on the photos and order the appropriate rack(s).
For instance,
The description indicates it is approximately 25" wide by 16" deep.
Using the grid system, it appears to be more like, 25 1/8 by 16 1/8 inches.
Were you to order this rack, you may recieve one that is exactly 25 by 16 inches, or one that could be 24 7/8 by 15 7/8 inches.
Good Luck,
Joe,
Thanks, I rechecked the cavity and the grids from previous purchase…Part received measured 23 5/8"…I only opened one of 2 racks…is there much of a difference between production lots?
Anyway oven cavity is 24 1/8" wide top and bottom…the approx measuers are a killer…does the cavity expand upon heating or the rack, or both…if another casserol drops, I’m dead meat…
Try try again, this will be order # 3…cold measure of current rack is 23 7/8" and it will drop off when loaded…took this stuff for granted before I bought this house last summer…
Any final suggestions? Thanks

Otto,
What about the middle of the cavity ?
You may want to consider this oven rack,
It measures out at approximately 24 1/8" by 15 1/2 Using the grid panel on the photo.
As for production lots, yes , there can be differences, in width an length, but very seldom more than 1/8 in. either way.
( some manufacturers take it as far 1/32 in.)
As for expansion, yes, both components expand, the cavity more than the racks, the average expansion on a cavity is approvimately 1/32 to 1/16 in.
Hunting for replacement racks, can be frustrating, especially on a unit that has a bowed, warped cavity.
Good Luck,

- Go to your local home improvement store and buy a 1/4" diameter mild steel rod in a length to allow about 1 foot per shelf you need to fix. It will be under $5.
- Take it and the racks to someone who can wire weld - a muffler shop, high school shop, or friend. They can cut the rod to fit the end of the rack, then weld it from the bottom to extend the rack by 1/4".
- Once put back in the oven, you won’t hardly notice it. Repeat on the other side of the rack if it needs to be wider.
Some racks might need a different diameter rod to match. Bring your rack in to the store to compare. Two small spot welds will hold hundreds of pounds and are much stronger than the tiny ones holding the rack together from the factory. It took me literally 20 seconds to weld the 2 spots.
See the photo of the bottom side and top side of one of my racks.

Dave, Thanks for the input, advice and photo’s. The info will come in handy for others reviewing the Repair Forum. Thanks Again,
I have a Kitchenaid oven and have the exact same problem…and self cleaning has not been used. Did ordering a larger rack work?
I have a Kitchenaid oven and have the exact same problem…and self cleaning has not been used. Did ordering a larger rack work?
Go Bears, You would probably want to put the oven through a self clean cycle first, one of two things will occur, the bowed cavity may “Pop” back into the proper dimension(not likely) or the cavity will bow out further. Then you can take the side to side dimensions and can order a rack that may give you a better fit. Or you can determine what size wire rod you need to add to the existing rack, as stated in the previous post.
Our Kenmore Elite Dual Fuel Electric oven interior warped outward(expanded) when the racks were left in during cleaning cycle. The original manufacturer’s rack dimensions were 22.5 inches wide by 14 5/8 inches deep. I now need a wider rack - 23 inches to be precise, with same depth dimension(14 5/8 inches). Any hhelp would be greatly appreciated.
