Oven only turns on broiler element

I have an older GE range, model number JBP65GS1WH. When we turn on the oven, the lower heating element will not come on at all. Instead the upper - broiler - heating element comes on. Turning the knob to to the broiler setting works just fine, but turning it to any oven setting causes the broiler element to come on as well. Any ideas as to what part could be malfunctioning so I can possibly repair?

I have the same problem, what is the solution?

Did you ever find an answer? I have a whirlpool gold. When we turn bake on everthing appears as if it’s working correctly but only the broiler is turning on (when we didn’t turn it on).

Most units use the bake and broil elements when in bake mode.
They usually switch back and forth between the two elements. this gives a more even temperature gradient in the oven.

Odds are that your bake element is burned out.

Unplug or remove power from the unit. This is very important as many units still have power to one side of the bake element even when it is turned off.

Remove the screw holding the bake element to the back of the oven and gently pull it forward until you can disconnect it.

Then measure it with a meter, should be around 20 ohms.

It is a good idea to clip something (clothespin etc.) onto the wires so that they do not disappear into the back of the oven.

It could be other things but a burned out element is at the top of the list also a model number is required to troubleshoot any further.

The model number is GW395LEPBOO.
Wouldn’t everything be part of Control Module? I just replaced the control panel because that went bad (it was hit or miss if the buttons work). I got that installed thinking everything was fine but then when I hit bake, the broiler went on, and stayed on.

You added to a post that was for an electric oven and it looks like yours is gas so answers here will not apply.

Be sure to include the model number.
Also it should be zero zero at the end not oo.

I do not work on gas units so can be of little help.
Yes the control board does run the gas valves, I think.
