Oven not heating up and gas smell in house

I have a Magic Chef Model 34GA-2CKX. Recently when trying to use the oven it did not seem to come up to temperature and there was a gas smell in the kitchen when using the oven.
I did visually check that the hot surface igniter was coming on when first turning in the oven and it was lighting the burner at startup. Is this an issue with the hot surface igniter or the fact that the oven is. It coming up to temperature and I’m getting a strong gas smell indicating another issue.
A side note, the top burners work fine with no gas smell after they are ignited.

Its a pretty common problem. The igniter gets weak and doesn’t pass enough amperage to the gas valve fast enough, so it lights slow and you smell gas. Then later it might not light at all, or take too long to light, so the oven cools off too much.

Replace your igniter and you should be OK. If you had an amp meter you could be sure, but the igniters are fairly cheap and fail about every five years or so.

Thanks. Can you tell me if I need to replace both the top and bottom igniters?

Its probably just the bake igniter. The broil ones usually last twice as long as the bake ones. (less use)
