Oven igniter works but gas supply goes on and off

My Magic Chef oven has the following problem. The ignitor is on and glows orange. The gas comes on at the burner after it heats up to about 150 degrees. It stays on until the oven gets to about 200 degrees. Then the gas appears to be shut off and comes back on, off and on, off and on. It takes forever for the oven to heat up.

From reading this forum I have the understanding that the ignitor should glow white, not orange. Also, I understand that if the ignitor doesn’t get hot enough and draw enough current the contorller shuts the gas off. Here’s the kicker. Everytime I open the oven door and the gas is off while the ignitor glows orange after one or two seconds the gas turns back on and burns blue. This happens EVERYTIME I open the oven door and the gas has shut off. Sometimes I open the oven door and the burner is still on and burning blue, but if the gas has shut off it turns back on within about 2 seconds.

Any ideas about his and does it still indicate the ignitor as the problem?

Check for loose wires, but I’d bet quite a bit that your ignitor is going bad. I’ve replace lots of these. AP4012072

Yes, it was the ignitor. I switched out the broil ignitor with the bake ignitor and it worked. The broiler doesn’t work now but we have never used that option. I’ve ordered the new part and everything should be dandy. Thanks.

You’re welcome!
