Oven door still not closing properly after replacing door spring

Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number:
Main Symptom: Door not closing
What happens & when: We have a Whirlpool oven whose door wasn’t closing all the way, so we replaced the door spring. The new spring mostly works, but occasionally it gets caught and the door won’t close properly. We’ve found that placing a towel in the hinge resets the spring and fixes the issue temporarily, but we shouldn’t need to keep doing this workaround with a brand new spring.

Is it possible we got a defective spring, or is there something we need to adjust during installation? Could the hinge itself be worn or damaged, causing the spring to catch? Any advice would be appreciated before we consider replacing more parts.

Thanks in advance!

It is not likely to get two parts doing the same thing. Compare the new hinge to the old one and the one on the other side, if they are the same you may need to replace the hinge on both sides to get equal tension so they don’t bind.

I replaced the door springs on both sides. Is there something else I need to do?
