I have a Magic Chef Model CGR3742CDQ gas stove. The upper burners work but the oven will not heat up. There is no gas smell when the oven is on. I am assuming for the moment that it is a faulty ignitor but am unsure as to what part number is required. Any help would be appreciated.
Fred,
You’re on he right track, most ignition and heat problems in a gas oven are due to a weak igniter,
You can test for 3.2 to 3.6 VAC, at the wires on the burner safety valve wires, or an amperage draw of 3.2 to 3.6 amps, with a clamp on ammeter, either way, the igniter has to be in the ignition process (on and glowing).
Good Luck,

Thanks for your input. Ordered part, installed and all is well. Appreciate your help.
Fred,
Great job, we’re glad you’re up and running. It was our pleasure to assist, and Thanks for the update.

Hi fred, Im having the same problem.. Was your old igniter still turning red ? I’m thinking mine is just weak ???
Romero,
Yes, a glow bar igniter can glow red, and still be weak. A non technical test would be to observe the glow bar, It should glow “white” hot in 60 to 90 seconds from the time the glow starts, if not the igniter is weak, and needs to be replaced.

I have a GE gas range JGBS22BEH3WH that won’t light the oven, either. Cooktop works fine. The glow bar doesn’t do anything, doesn’t even get warm. Does this seem to point to the glow bar, or the thermostat?
G,
In your case, you’ll need to remove the igniter and check for a physical break in the igniter assembl. If you have a multimeter it wouls be graet to check for a resistance reading.
If the igniter does not glow at all, it’s still likely you have a bad igniter or a loose wire, but could also be a thermostat / control.

Joe, thanks for the input. I’ll give that igniter test and see what happens since it appears to be intact!
G,
Great, let us know what you find.

Well, the igniter tested with no resistance at all. So I ordered the new one from APP, installed yesterday. The oven fired right up, problem solved. Thanks for the advice!
G,
