Oven and broiler don't work

i have this caloric oven that came with the house i recently bought. the burners work fine but the oven and broiler are dead. i have read that it may be the ignitors that need replacing. does anyone have any advice and also how to do this repair. i’m not even sure parts are available for this model.
thank you!

Rumblefish,

A couple of things you want to look for first,

Does the clock work and keep time ?

Observe the “start” and “stop” timers to the right of the display,
the start timer should have the same time displayed as the digital clock, and the stop timer knob should be in the “manual” or “Off” position.

You may want to just turn the timer knobs, clockwise, until the timer knob pops out, (you could be in an auto bake cycle).

If we get that eliminated, remove the oven bottom panel, program a bake cycle and observe the ignition process, you may want to do the same test on the broil burner, first, it’s alittle easier to observe.

Keep in touch, let us know what you find.

We’re here to help.

thanks for the input. turns out it was the oven ignitor. so now here is another issue…the broiler also has an ignitor which was totally blown. i took it out and left out the broiler screen. i’m getting a faint gas smell from the top of the unit especially near the burners. what could this be? i dont believe any of the fittings are leaking? could the broiler be giving the gas smell because i left it disassembled? thanks again…i love this forum!

Rumblefish,

As for a gas leak now, I can only think of a couple of possibilities,

a) You may have “shook” one of the connectors loose, when dismantling the broiler assembly.

b) When the broiler igniter “blew up” it may have damaged the internal switch in the valve, and is leaking, but, you should have had a gas odor, before you started.

Nothing you can’t solve, with a little soapy water and a small paint brush/rag.

Put a couple of teaspoons of detergent in a glass, stir it up, use the paint brush to apply the soapy water to all the gas line fittings and watch for bubbles to form.

In a way you’re lucky, both burners use the same igniter,(so you’ll need to order 2 of the same part.

thank you for your reply joe. i found the gas leak with some soapy water and a q-tip. it was the 3/8 compression fitting at the stove top burner rail that was the culprit. a little teflon tape and a few open end wrenches and no more leak.
would you happen to know why the oven light on the top left hand side of this unit stays on when the oven is off and goes off when the oven is turned on? i would think it would be the other way around.
i’m gonna buy another ignitor so i can get my broiler going. thanks again.

Rumblefish,

Glad you have the gas leak, taken care of.

And the glow bar, orderred.

Things are going good at this point.

I’ll see if I can find a wiring / circuit diagram and we’ll see about the oven on light. I’m not sure it 'll be available for a range that old.

I’ll get back to you as soon as possible, either way.
