I ordered Part number D7824706Q replacement ice maker. The ice maker over all appears to the same. However, there is one difference that i noticed. The water inlet on the new maker is coming into the side of the maker. My current maker water inlet is coming into the back. My freezer has the maker on the rear wall not the side wall.

I can see in the new maker has a knock out in the plastic for the rear inlet, (rectangle in shape). The new maker is round inlet on the side, you can see this on the attached photo.

Has anyone come across this situation?

I think i can make it work by modifying it myself. I would need to cut out the back and close the round hole on the side (so the fill water doesn’t run out).

How can i get the correct part? Do I need to modify to make it work?

Hi Bruce3, thank you for your question.

The newer stock of these ice makers often comes from the manufacturer in this configuration. When I’ve run into this situation before, the method I typically use is transferring the fill cup from the old ice maker to the new one. This helps ensure a proper fit and reduces the chances of a leak that might occur if the cut-out is simply plugged.

Here’s a replacement video that can be used as a reference for switching the fill cups during installation. WP628356 Ice Maker Fill Cup And Bearing Assembly | Genuine Whirlpool OEM In Stock

WilliamM_APP_TEAM,

Thank you for the help.

Trading the trays doesn’t look easy without breaking something. Do you have any suggestions on how to remove without breaking?

Thank you again for the help.

WilliamM_APP_TEAM,

I found your video link, after i sent my reply. The process for changing the cup looks very straight forward. Thank you for including the Link
