Nicole,
Whirlpool Corp. acquired Maytag Corp. back in 2006, and have produced the Maytag labelled products, since then, so yes your machine was produced by Whirlpool Corp.
As for reliability, it’s as dependable as any other machine out there, today.
Most repairs are pretty simple and easy to repair, easier than some.

Nicole,
Yes, this style unit has been out for quite sometime.
The most common problem I saw as a technician, was loose wires and connections,bad sensors, mis diagnosis.
Like any other product,
Familiarize yourself with the product, read the instruction manual, front to back, and follow them, and most of your possible problems are solved, before they exist.
Like I said before, it’s average or a little above, compared to other similar products, the energy savings may make up for it’s short comings.
