One gas burner won't stay lit on low

I just bought this house and the GE JGB928 gas range works great except one burner, left front, runs fine until I turn it to low and it goes out. This is my first gas stove, but I have been handy on all types of other appliances. Is there someting that may be clogged. The book states it is a sealed burner unit.

Does anybody have a solution?

Hi.

Remove the burner cap and burner had. Locate the burner orifice inside the opening and clean it using the needle or wire.
If that doesn’t help - replace the burner valve #15 l/f on diagram.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Gas & Burner parts for GE JGB928BEK1BB - AppliancePartsPros.com

Post the results.

Simon.

P.S. Check if the actual model number is the same as the one on the diagram.

Simon,
Thanks for the reply. I got the burner to work using a small wire. I did the same for all of my other burners just in case. I have a minor problem with my left front burner, it sometimes goes lower on #2 than on low, and occasionally goes out.
I have model JGB928SEL1SS and it shows three valve burners WB21K10044 through 46 and a Hi Cap. (out of stock). If I decide to replace this gas burner, which one is the left front (Large Head).
Also, how do I get to the valve burner? There are two screws that appear to hold down the burner base but it also seems to be held down by the ignitor. Do these bases need to be removed or does the Cook top just lift up? Once I get to the valve burner is it a simple swap out?

Thanks,

Ken

Hi.

Is it small, medium or large burner?

To replace it remove all 4 burners by taking out 2 screws from each burner base and pulling it up.Then lift the top.The valve is held by one 1/4 or 5/16 screw.
Don’t forget to turn the power and gas off.

Simon.

According to the manual it is the large burner, left front. Not the Extra Large, right front.
I tried to remove this burner base by removing the two screws, but the igniter seems to try to hold the burner base down, like it all is one unit. How do I release the igniter and what about the wire(s) to the igniter?

If I have to order the burner valve, how long would it take to get the correct one in stock?

Thanks,

Ken

Simon,
Thanks for the help and info. I still have one question: when I take out the two screws, the igniter still seems to hold the burner base down. What do I need to do to get the burner base to release, or do I need to?

The burner parts are listed as WB…44 at 5000, WB… 45 at 9500 and WB…46 at 13000 plus a high capacity which I do not know the BTU’s. Is the 44 right rear, 45 left rear, 46 left front (my problem burner? Or do I have these wrong?
Thanks,
Ken

Hi.

You are right the 13000btu is the one you need.Sorry I was misled by 1300 number (one zero is missing).

The burner valve p/n WB21K10046.

Use the putty knife to ease off the base.

Simon.

Simon,
thanks for all of the help. If I have future problems with the burner(S) I feel like I can now deal with them.
Thanks,
Ken

Simon,
I have removed all of the screws to the Burner Bases on the Cook Top and none of them will lift out because the #13 burner electrode appears to be held from under the cook top with the #168 Clip Electrode. All the Bases wiggle, but the electrode keeps them fastened down. I can’t see any way to get the electrodes loose from above.

Will the cook top, along with the lossened Burner Bases and electrodes just pop up if I pry along the front of the cook top and try to lift it up and how much force should I apply? Or is something else need to be disconnected in order to get the cook top open.

Once I can get the Cook top off, It looks like a simple swap out. Oh yeah, if I ever have to replace a electrode it appears I need to get to them from under the Cook Top also.

New: I tried to gently pry - no good. The electrodes don’t budge. Do I need to remove the front panel and what is the procedure for that? It looks like 4 screws but what about the controls.

I know I am guessing a lot. Basically how do I get the cook top raised in order to repair anything under it?

Thanks,

Ken

Hi.

Use the putty knife to open the two clips holding the top (one on each side above the control panel).

Simon.

Simon,
Thanks for the information. I will give it a try next week, to much going on the next few days.

Ken

You are welcome.
