Hi,
I bought an older Perlick Kegerator off craigslist recently. The ideal draft beer tempature is between 36-38. I put a glass of water in the kegerator and the average temp gets down to only about 42-43 which is too warm. I did some trial and error type tests, the kegerator has no problem cooling the inside down to 35 and up near the cold air vent to 30 degrees. The problem is the kegerator compression just turns back on to cool everything down at 55?!
The kegerator isn’t trying to restart itself and fails, it just wont turn back on until the thermostat hits 55/56ish. I confirmed this by letting it cool down completely and waiting for it to turn off. I then opened the doors on the machine and waited about 45 seconds for it to hit 55/56 and it immediately turned back on. So it appears to cool just fine, it just doesn’t want to turn on until the temp gets too high leaving the average tempature too high.
So my question is, whats the problem? Is it salvageable? Is there a way to adjust the thermostat or something?
Seems the general consensus is the thermostat is having problems.
I did some more digging myself and found this. Perlick has a warranty/serial number lookup. So I typed it in and it gave me a lot more info on things. Seems its older then I expected.
I’m in a similar situation. My Perlick keg cooler won’t maintain a temperature below 44 degrees.
It ran fine a few weeks ago until it froze my beer line. I adjusted the thermostat several times over a course of 2 or 3 weeks trying to find the appropriate setting but now I can’t find a setting that’ll even hold the 34-40 temps I need.
Is my thermostat shot or could there be another issue?
For tnsouthpaw, you probably have refrigeration problems. I would short the cold control to see how cold it can get, if still too high, that would confirm it.
For arock10, I would do the same test.
