Old Maytag wont go into spin cycle

I have a 30 year old Maytag washing machine that worked fine up until a sock got caught in the drum and burnt out the motor. I replaced the motor and main drive belt and it agitates just fine, but for some reason it does not enter into the spin cycle. I’ve already spent more than I should and the person at the supply store is insisting it is something simple, so I am hoping to discover what the problem is. I am unfamiliar with washing machine and appliance repair in general so it very well could be something simple. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

See what happens when you manually move the timer into a spin cycle. If it still does not spin check the lid switch which is the likely cause of the problem. If it is anything else it is probably not worth the repair cost.
