Evening,
Was given an old Mongomery Ward’s chest freezer, told it worked fine. Unloaded it from trailer, dragged it across garage, plugged it in and nothing happened. No whirr of the compressor, clicking of electrical parts or anything.
Where do I begin to diagnose this thing? I noticed two plugs – one for the compressor, the other leads to the thermostat I think. I plugged both in and still nothing.
Any and all help is needed!!

When you say you found 2 plugs, what does the wiring look like at the compressor. Also does this have any indicator lights or anything that will tell you power is going to the freezer

The first step would be to make sure you have power at the outlet that you plugged the freezer into.
Looks like there’s an indicator light on the door. Doesn’t light up when plugs are plugged in. The outlet does have power. Temperature setting is set to cold.
trace the wires starting from the wall outlet, and look for a loose or broken wire somewhere
Seems like a good place to start. And it stands to reason things might have been shifted in transit. Thanks!
Your defrost timer may be stuck in defrost, just check by turning it, should be in the back of the freezer, or behind the control panel, a black box with 4 wires going to it.

Did you try plugging the cord from the compressor directly into power. If my memory serves this plug goes into a harness from the thermostat. if it has a two pronged plug you should be able to plug it directly into an extension cord and see if the compressor comes on. If it doen’t then the compressor could be bad or the start relay may be bad. Check the wiring to the compressor. It could be broken. If it is a very old freezer the wires and insulation could be very brittle and could easily break especially if dragged across a floor.
