Not making Ice

My free standing kitchen Aid ice maker is not making ice - the ice maker cycles but no ice.

  1. When I first turn the Ice maker on - the water turns on
  2. After a few seconds the water pump turns on - pumping water up to and over the freezing plate
  3. The water continuesly runs over the freezing plate but never solidifies
  4. What part do I need ?
  5. The ice plate seems to be cold
  6. The cutting grid is hot ready to cut.

The first thing you may want to do is clean the condenser coils and check how the fan motor next to the compressor works.

Press the Clean switch for diagnostic mode (first 30 seconds). Watch the LED and post the results.

Gene There are NO LED’s on the face panel of my ice maker - just on - off - clean buttons - the only LED is the clean light - no blinking. (are the LED’s located any where else) Update: I ran the ice maker today three seperate times lets call it test 1, test2 and test3 Test 1 result: the unit ran fine for aprox 2 1/2 - 3 hrs made ice went through 3 full cycles - after the third cycle the unit shut down. i noticed alot of heat coming from the lower section of the unit where the fan, compresor and condensor is located. during cycle 2 and 3 of ice making the fan ran very slow and at times shutting off and on Test 2 results: same as test 1 ( I let the unit cool down for 1 hr before starting back up) Test 3 results: same as test 1 ( i let the unit cool down for 4 hrs bfore startingback up)
