not enough water in washer

I have the front loading HE kenmore washing machine and it does not seem to be getting enough water to wash the clothes. Sometimes the clothes don’t even seem to get wet, and they don’t smell wet or clean.

How much water is supposed to be in the cycles? If I run the washer empty to monitor the water level, what should I see?(We live in the country on a well with hard water, in case that has any effect on any of the parts.) Thanks

Camano,

That type of washer uses aproximately 16 gallons of water per normal cycle, with no options selected(5.3 gallons per fill).

Being on a well should not affect the operation of the machine, as long as proper water pressure and flow is maintained, all the time.

Having hard water will effect the detergent composition and effectiveness and you’ll have the problem of debris in the screens on occasion, but nothing you haven’t had with other washing machines.

You may want to check your owners manual for proper load size and loading procedure.

Good Luck,
