Noisey Ge Monogram

HELLO ALL,
I just purchase a used GE Monogram side-by-side refrigerator last week knowing that it was making a humming noise. I call the local repair place(30 miles away) and found I live outside there service area. I am now looking for some help with a do it yourself repair.
The noise occurs when both doors are shut and goes away when either door is opened. After performing some basic diagnosis have have narrowed the source of the noise to the freezer fan motor.
The history behind the noise: About a year ago one of the doors was left ajar overnight and ever since then the noise has never stopped.
When I got the refrigerator home last friday it took over night to achieve the factory settings according to the temperture readouts. We then filled both sides about half full on saturday. Sunday evening I noticed the ice cream bars were not frozen. Monday when I check them again they had refroze, also the items in the door of the fridge do not seem to get very cold, or what I think is cold. When opening and closing the doors alot in a short period of time(while making dinner) the fridge seems as though it can’t keep the temperture cold. I have also notice there is very little air flow coming from the fan above the non working freezer light bulb.

GE recommends to replace the evaporator fan motor together with the main control board and the thermistor.

  • The part number for the evaporator fan motor assembly is AP3191003

  • The part number for the main control board is AP3957581

Why the control board, is it an updated part?? Thanks for the help.

Yes, GE has redesigned it. If you will replace just the fan motor, it would be damaged again.

Looking at the parts schematic it looks like the refrigerator needs to be set on its side, is this true and if so how long should it be up right before plugging back in? Also is there any sugestion as for as maintanance for a 6 year old refrigerator? Thank you very much for your help>

How did you see it? Which diagram shows the fridge on its side?
