I have an electric dryer, just over 3 years old.
Recently we had a lot of electrical issues due to storms, and we also cut power to our house while replacing a light switch. It was after the storms and replacment that we started a load of wash. When moving it to the dryer, we noticed the dryer has NO power. At first I was under the impression that it was the breaker box, needing a switch replaced or reset… but then I bought an AC voltage tester. One that senses outlets and through wires without direct contact.
The sensor indicates there is power to outlet, and power up the dryers power cord. However, I have no lights, no nothing on my dryer… except some mildew stink forming in my washer from wet clothes sitting over 36 hours!
I’ve taken apart (after unpluging since outlet is live) the back where the power cord is attached. Nothing is loose. I checked all three connections and the grounding wire.
I’m not sure what could be the problem. I’m not even sure where to go next. Considering I paid $600 for the things several years ago, I don’t want to pay a $600 repair bill.
Any advice would be cherished. I’m not sure what else to check. Everything just says “check connections”, and check that your house hasn’t tripped/blown fuse. Both have already been ruled out.
Also in April this year I had a problem where it would not stop spinning unless unplugged, even out of cycle or turned off. It was not running heat while this was happening, or I probably would have had a fire. I ran diagnostics on it then, and it came up as a jammed button (with I never did find). I cleaned around all buttons and inside the door, reset with electronic code (needs power) and all was fine until now.
