Main Symptom: Cannot enter personality code after replacing User Interface Control Board
What happens & when: After replacing the User Interface Control Board (P/N WH22X35757) I plugged in the washer and all lights started to flash as expected. I pressed and held the start button for several seconds, then released the button. Everything went blank. After I could not get the machine to respond. I need to know both the personality code, and how to get it input.

With the unit not allowing you to program the board, it sounds like a there could be a communication issue. Double check all connections to make sure that there are no loose or damaged wires. If this is not the case then you may have received a faulty board.
Thank you for the input. I have checked all connections and there was no change. I reinstalled the old board and the washing machine works.
How do I return the board?
I returned the first board to Appliancepros.com and received a new board.
I just installed the new board and have the same problem:
1. Plug in the washing machine and all lights flash.
2. Press the On/Off button and release, and lights stop flashing.
3. Press On/Off button, and nothing happens, machine is dark with no response.
After our previous discussion, I checked all of the connections with no issues seen.
What do I do now?
To program the control, the start button would need to be briefly pressed as soon as the power cord is plugged in. The start button would then be briefly pressed to change to the next personality code. Pressing and holding the start button will instruct the control to exit the programming mode/save a program that is selected based on what the instructions are showing. Pressing the on/off button would not be used for the programming selection. From what I am finding, the personality for the model GTW685BSL0WS would be personality 7.

I installed the board with no issues (it physically fit with all connections good).
Unfortunately, the same thing happened when I tried to program the personality code.
1. I plugged in the machine and all lights started flashing.
2. Per your instructions, I briefly pressed the start button and all lights stopped flashing.
3. I pressed the start button again several times but nothing happened (everything stayed blank).
4. I unplugged the machine and waited for 30+ seconds.
5. I repeated the above procedure with the same results. The lights stop flashing after the first press of the start/stop button, but no response after.
Please let me know what to do next.

The personality code is consistent with other information (7), but it will not go into field service mode. The machine just stays blank.
Would it be possible to attach a video or a link to a video showing what occurs starting from when the LEDs flash, through pressing the start button, to attempting to activate the service mode? While there is a clear explanation of what is occurring, sometimes a visual observation can help to identify every potential occurrence.
