Kitchenaid washer model kawe850val1.
I removed the gearbox and opened it up. The long shaft that the agitator turns on…it has a gear near the bottom of it, in the gearbox. The gear has teeth that only go half way around it. Where can I get this gear?
Here is an exploded view of your gearcase

See if the gear you are looking for is in the diagram. You will also need fresh oil to put into the gearcase.
Good luck, hope this helps.
After all this time I am back with another problem on the same washer.
Since I repaired it it has had a slight sqealing as it agitates. After it runs few minutes the noise stops, thus the lack of interest in finding the source. Now, however, the noise is worse and does not stop. Any idea what it may be?
Another problem, which makes me take this more seriously, is that my lights started to dim (flicker) as it spins. I noticed, today, that the spin is not getting up to full speed and there is a constant clicking as it is running. Sounds like a relay. Or is it the capacitor on top of the motor that is defective?
When I repaired to washer before, the connection on the capacitor was broken. A guy at the electric motor shop did not have the correct replacement capacitor but did have one he said would perform the same function in the correct way. Could this be my trouble?
Just asking for your thoughts at this time. Hate the idea of tearing it apart again. Thanks.
Don’t know what the squealing is without hearing it. The relay clicking sound associated with reduced spin speed could be a problem with the motor switch or the two pin extra connector at the motor has come loose. Problem could also be in the timer. This model has a 3 speed motor. The motor always starts in high speed but once the motor centrifugal switch has activated, speed is determined by timer and motor switch. If contact is not properly made after motor comes up to speed, the motor cuts off and then when it slows down and centrifugal switch goes back to start position, the motor starts again. This process repeats causing the motor to just keep starting/stopping causing the slow spin and clicking sound. I can help troubleshoot better if you provide photo of the wiring diagram. It’s no longer available for this old model. Open the control panel for access to the diagram. I would suggest replacing the capacitor with the proper one.

Have not dug deeply yet but made this observation. During low speed spin and drain all is well but when drain stops and spin stops and then kicks into high speed spin it mediately starts loud rapid clicking (or maybe “clacking”) and every time it does the lights dim. It obviously is a high speed spin issue.
As I requested, if you provide photo of the wiring diagram I can help further troubleshoot this problem. I know what it is, the motor is cutting on/off. Directly after the agitation cycle stops, the machine goes into the 2 minute drain cycle. This is in high speed and the motor centrifugal switch is bypassed during this time. If your washer is spinning during this initial drain period, your neutral drain in the transmission is not functioning but that’s no big deal. After the drain, the motor stops and then restarts to continue draining and spin should start. At this point, power is through the motor centrifugal switch. Here’s where the problem is and this is when the motor starts cutting on/off.

My photo turned out really bad but I will still supply it. Also, I think this link will give you the diagram for this washer. I asked for it back when I was doing the previous repairs. http://appliancejunk.com/forums/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=8729.0;attach=4787

Does it do this during agitation cycle at all or just during spin? Does it do it during the very last 4 minutes of spin in regular cycle? Have you replaced the capacitor? That may be the problem but the only way to really rule it out is to replace it.
Eric
As far as I can tell it agitates fine, spin/drains fine. But then the washer stops the spin/drain cycle. Then the washer kicks into hi-speed spin at which time it immediately starts kicking in and out which causes the lights to flicker and the hi-speed spin never gets up to full speed. So, yes, it would be at the last few minutes of the spin cycle. I replaced the capacitor during the previous repair but I used a capacitor that was not meant for it. The motor repair guy suggested it would work. However, I will contact a local appliance parts dealer to see if he has the right part. Would you have the part number? If I can order it on line (THROUGH PAYPAL) I would be will to do that to save the trouble of driving across town.
Check the connector, terminals and wiring at the motor harness connector. Look for signs of overheating, melting/burning of wire insulation, particularly at the blue wire. If all looks good, you may have a faulty timer which is no longer available. The timer has multiple contacts and several of them are used to select motor speed during different parts of the cycle. Here’s a link for the capacitor.

I have finished trying to keep this washer going. I will part it out.
The problems with the washer are as follows… Squealing noise when agitating and most recently, as this thread states, motor kicking in and out during hi-speed spin. Don’t know if its the centrifical switch in the motor or the timer.
