The idler pulley plugs into slots on the base.

The belt installation picture is attached to the post.

how do i get the belt to spin the drum

With the grooved side of the belt against the drum, there is only one way to install per the picture given.

how do you get access to the back of the dryer like that? i pulled the back cover off, will i have to take out the drum?

Mine is a whirlpool, model ler5636pq1

Ried#3,

What was the original problem with your dryer?

Gene.

Reach in with both arms under the drum, and route the belt around the motor pulley and the idler pulley and watch for sharp edges! Rotate drum one turn to make sure the belt tracks properly.

I have the same Estate dryer as the original poster and mostly the same issue. We’ve dismantled everything we had to in order to reach the motor to replace the broken drum belt, and found the idler pulley laying on the inner rim of the front plate under the dryer door. I think I’ve figured out where it reattaches to, but not how to thread the belt around it. I have some images I took with my phone while trying to figure it out, but they don’t seem to match the diagrams and I’m wondering if maybe there’s another missing part somewhere that we haven’t been able to find in the bottom of the dryer. Any help I can get would save us a ton of money in repair/replace costs, as we really can’t afford a new dryer right now, nor can we afford to have someone come out and look at it.

Thanks a ton.

The idler pulley goes in the slots under the motor. Put the belt around the drum with the ribbed side against the drum, rout the belt around the idler pulley and the motor pulley pulley and the. There is only one way to put it on to get proper tension on the belt.

Yeah, I finally found a picture that shows the idler pulley that we have instead of the one with a wheel and it showed how the belt was threaded through there. All is well and the dryer is working again. Thanks.
