Brand: Maytag Model Number: MVWB765FW3 Main Symptom: Not agitating What happens & when: originally was making a somewhat loud noise once during washing cycles, then got more and more. Finally grinding noises and the agitator was doing nothing. I pulled the agitator, no issues with the teeth on either side. Flipped it on its side and I removed the t30 from bottom, lots of black dust underneath from the magnets hitting each other. The white round piece with the magnets was not very tight on the motor. I removed it, and removed the white plastic clutch slider gear, and it was fine. Water is leaking from the around the smaller spline, and the teeth at the end of this spline seem pretty worn. Also this spline is loose. I think this is the transmission and fear it is bad, thoughts?
Based on the video, the gearcase has definitely failed. However, it is possible that this may have caused more damage than just the gearcase. If the magnets on the rotor have been damaged, the rotor would definitely need to be replaced. W11393685 Gearcase | Genuine Whirlpool OEM In Stock
Thank you! Appreciate you. Looking at that. This machine has a 10-year warranty on the motor and the tub. Do you think this would fall under that warranty? Or should I just start fixing it on my own?
The gearcase is not covered under that and since the rotor may have been damaged due to the gearcase, I doubt it would be covered either. It is always worth checking though.
If I replaced only the gearcase and not the rotor, would it just be a case of having to take it back apart and replacing the rotor? I don’t think it would cause anymore damage, right?
It was working just fine, and honestly I’m trying to repair this as economically as possible.
