This morning the wife called me at work. The dishwasher, a nice Kenmore Ultra Wash model 665.16369301, had left a brown liquid on the kitchen floor. Two weeks ago the electronic air filter were out and in the dishwasher for cleaning and when all was over a couple of the tungston wires were missing. I took thing apart after she tried to make it run for me and the motor sounds siezed up.
So here I am. She want a new dishwasher but … 20 year old eledtronic air filter need new wires and I can only guess that the food chopper and screen well Something is binding up the works.
If I rebuild the works what will it take how much will it run me and do we try to match the front with our raised panel and kit up on a new one?

Water on floor was a rusty brown. Motor sounded like a loaded transformer. Down where cutter (that does not turn by hand and screen are the cutter impeller coupling does not turn; The black mating piece that is pump part of this non positive displacement pump . Will cancel cycle and drain via the other pump on the side of the sump.

After a quick review of the parts drawing the impeller kit has a washer packing and seal with the impeller. The motor lets say wobbles as the bushing in the motor grows like a Mexican pot plant in the hot sun on a river bank. So our Whirlpools new factory didn’t include a new balancing station in the motor assembly line and what the hey I almost got 5 years out of this nice unit. The Mexicans well the have a dollar a day and the CEO’s company jets for trips to Mexican resorts.
Disposable? I don’t think so. Under $200.00 for sump, motor and some seals if I check around?
Some of this is local purchase no doubt.
Yes?
What all do I need? Are new Motors better than the ones made 5 years ago?
I am a tech. Can do this correctly the first time. I also know what the accountants left out of the Quality checklist. A job for a worker in QC at $5.00 a day.

You do not need the whole assembly, just a new motor which is a little above a $100. If the rest of the dishwasher is in a good shape, then it’s probably worth it.
The part number for the motor assembly is AP3179651
That part… I see why you say yhat is the thing. The seal packing and washer must be behind the impeller.
I need now I have to hear what the Sears Service guy wants to sell. The ya whos on the phone said a $205.00 service agreement for a year would be all it took. The wife is in control until there is a bait and switch and I walk the guy to the property line.
I bet this motor come rignt off after the unit is on it’s side.
I know who gets th parts order and I am not running around town to get it.
Any advice in the removal and replacement procedure?
Part was here when I got home from work at 3:00pm. Killed the cktbrk, shutoff the water, made the disconnects and slid the unit free. Cleaned up the water let it drain after discconnecting the drain hose. Over the unit went on a thick exercise mat and caught any additional water.
The 3/8 shield screw was next with the electrical connection. One counter clockwise twist of the motor and it came right up and out. Cleaned all surfaces and a bit of stuff on the seperation screen. A little silicon grease on the Volute seal, the motor housing and the Volute marks lined up and in it slid. One easy twist and everything was ready to start in reverse order.
4:45pm I’m done.
Now for the failure analysis. This all started with a clogged chopper assembly screen and a broken chopper. I think this motor had a tough time keeping up back then with the Smart Wash feature that sences how dirty the dishes are. Never studied how it does what but I don’t care.
That chopper screen has got to be clean or the dishes don’t get ( a complaint that start my internet search and lead me to Appliance partspros.
I like this place. Show up at the US Postal Service. I think you will like our place too. Me, I am an ET and fix everything from the network to fancy sorting machines that do the impossile.
I treat everyone I come in contact the way I would like to be treated.
