new to the boards. i have a mini fridge that i was removing the ice build up on and i punctured the evaporator line in the little freezer compartment. i used some epoxy to try and seal it and it seems to be holding (no more hissing sound).
i have found the replacement part online for about $50 to be honest, i NEVER use the freezer compartment anyway.
my question is, can this be removed safely and still have the fridge work? here is a link to my fridge, the part in question is 131
Unfortunately it is absolutely impossible. The evaporator is a part of the cooling system and no one refrigerator can work without it. When you punctured the evaporator, the Freon leaked out and now there is nothing in the cooling system to produce cold.
Such refrigerator is not worth such repair. It will cost you less money to buy a new one.
i can get the part for about $50. i’m sure i can replace the part just fine but how hard is it to charge the lost freon?
i know i can get a new fridge for about $100 but i have this fridge in a custom install and it’d be impossible to find a fridge with the same dimensions
If you let it run after the puncture, the compressor has sucked in air and damaged it.
If not, to fix it you will need to epoxy the hole with a special epoxy that is stable at freezer temperatures. Then it can be re-charged with refrigerant without drawing a high vacumm with a pump.
