Microwave

Everthing works except it will not heat anything. can someone suggest what’s wrong, how to diagnose & repair?
thanks

You have to have a simple multimeter to perform troubleshooting.

Gene.

thanks, Gene. i have one and know how to use it, but don’t know what parts to test or what results i should look for. can you be more specific? also, i read that the capacitor in these ovens can be VERY dangerous. any guidance there?

Open the control panel and discharge the high voltage capacitor (#49 on the break down diagram). You can do this by using two screwdrivers. Put the screwdrivers blades in the terminals of the capacitor, one on each side and touch them together.

Check all door switches for continuity with the door open and closed.

If there is nothing wrong, locate the two wires connected to the primary high voltage transformer (#75 on the break down diagram) winding. Remove these wires and check for 120VAC between them while the control calls for heat and the door closed. Be careful not to electrocute yourself.

If there is no 120VAC then replace the control board.

If there is 120VAC then the problem, most likely, is a bad magnetron.
