Microwave Turntable will not turn

The turntable starts to turn about 1/2 a revolution and stops. I am thinking that it is the turntable motor that needs replaced on this unit that is mounted in our kitchen. The glass tray turns freely with no resistance. Could it be some other problem?

If I purchase a replacement motor, is it hard to install? Can it be replaced from under the unit without removing it from the wall bracket?
Do you have any replacement instructions to follow?
I know this is a lot of questions, but any help would be appreciated.

Hi John,

The first thing I would check is the coupler (#37 on the break down diagram).

Remove the glass tray and pull the coupler up. Check it for any cracks.

If the coupler is fine then the turntable motor has to be replaced.

It can be easy replaced after the bottom panel removed - just two screws and the wire plug.

Thanks for the quick response.

We’re having the same problem with our Jenn-Air JMC7000ADB microwave – the turn table does not turn. The spindle turns when the glass tray is off but will not turn when it’s on there. I’m pretty sure the motor needs to be replaced. Is this something that can be performed by a weekend DIYer or does it need to be done by a professional? Here is the part:

MAYTAG Motor, turntable, part number: 56001231

Thanks…

This part is not too difficult to replace yourself if you know how to handle a simple hand tools.

I am also having this problem with a GE spacemaker xl1800. I am also having trouble with the light, it doesn’t work on the first (low) setting but does on the high setting. Any help would be great.

skimaniac6,

What is the complete model number of the microwave? You can find it inside the microwave.

Gene.

Thanks for the quick reply, sorry I should have thought of that. model JVM 1860BD 001.
Thanks again.
Scott:)

Hi Scott,

Looks like the control board is bad because it controls all functions of the microwave, including the surface lights.

Sorry to not be more clear, the light problem started about 1 year ago and the turntable happened after we put a large heavy dish in and forgot to turn the turntable off. It still seems to spin till you put the glass plate on, then it won’t turn. I can live without the nightlight function but not the turntable.
Thamks again.

In that case most likely the problem is a bad coupler (under the glass plate).

Gene.

 The coupler seems to be ok, should it just pop off, I don’t want to pry it off and break it? My wife said she has heard a grinding noise which I have not heard.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.
Scott

Scott,

Just pull it up and don’t be afraid to break the coupler - it’s just 7 bucks.

Gene.

I pulled it out and it was broken so either I broke it pulling it out or it was already broken. I will order the piece and see if that does it.
Thanks,
Scott

Hi,

I’m having the same trouble as well. The turntable will not rotate. I have a Frigidaire model# GLMV168KQ3 manufactured in January of 2002. Please help me troubleshoot. By the way the button to push to turn the turntable on and off does beep like it is trying to work and the display shows like it is being turned on and off, just not rotating!

Thanks

Remove the bottom cover and unplug the plug from the turntable motor.

Check for 21VAC coming to the motor while the microwave is “on” and turntable option is “on” as well.

Post the results.

Hi,
I am having the same problem with the Frigidaire Gallery CFMT148GPB2. Turns half a turn sometimes with the glass plate, turns very slowly without it.
Would someone be so kind to provide me with a diagram and the required part numbers for this model?
Thank you very much.

dutchie,

The model number you posted does not come up. Is it American model? Verify and repost it, please.

Gene.

Hi Gene, thanks for your reply.
I’m actually in Canada. When I google part of the model number I find CFMT 148GPB1 which I assume must be the same unit. Date on the tag says Jan. 2000, don’t know if that helps. It’s an over the range microwave from the Frigidaire Professional line.
Hope you can help, thanks.

Hi Gene,
I discovered that the model for my microwave is actually the FMT148GPB2, all I had to do was drop the C.
I took out the turntable motor which seems to be defective, the model is ST-16FE(EX73SAAA3). I could not find this part on your site, do you sell it under a differnt part#?
Thanks a lot for your help.
