Microwave Smart Board

Just had a GE home service done for our microwave because the light burnt out. This light was the one that would come on when you opened the door or when you were using the regular microwave feature.

When the bulb burnt out the problem was that whenever you closed the door the blower and turntable would start up with out any programming entered. If you entered a time on the touch pad then everything would work except the blower and turntable would not stop. Your food or beverage would heat up just fine.

When the technician arrived, he examined a couple of items and then opened the area for the main smart board. After a while, he told us that the smart board would have to be replaced.

He showed us how to access the board so that we would not have to spend another $200 just to have him come out to install it.

We ordered the smart board from your company and when it arrived I matched it to the old one and it matched so I installed it along with a replacement light bulb. When I turned on the power the panel was a solid line of lights and then it blinked to the time setting mode. I set the time and then we attempted to test the microwave. Now the turntable will not turn, the blower will not energize, and the food or beverage will not heat.

The time will all work and the range top fans and all the other features seem to work fine. Is there another setting that needs to made or what should I check next? Is this smart board so smart that when the bulb is blown will the machine give the symptoms that I described above?

Wow, after viewing all the other posting I decided to check out the door switches. As I started testing the switches, I did find that the upper switch was not installed correctly and the door latch encountering the switch. After adjusting the switch, we plugged the unit in for a test run and then a bright flash and a puff of smoke came up from behind the smartboard. My wife and I looked at each other and was about to go shopping for another unit when we decided to remove the unit from the wall and open the entire unit to do a visual inspection. After opening the machine, I discovered that during the process of replacing the smartboard one of the wires on the main transformer had pulled off and moved over near the other connections. When we energized the unit, the end of the loose wire encountered another and burnt the end off. I replaced the connector and reconnected it to the main transformer. We crossed our fingers and plugged the unit in. (of course connected to a GFCI protection device) The main display lit up and then the unit went through a self-test and started blinking requesting the time. My wife placed a glass of water on the turntable and touched the micro express button and the unit started. When we opened our eyes, everything worked just fine. Again thanks for keeping the letters from other members because there is useful information contained within.
