Charles,
I hope the instructions in the Service manual (pages 4-19 & 4-20) will help you.
Gene.
I installed the new handle for the Kitchenaid KHMS155LSS0. I have the stainless steel model.
The instructions on the forum were a little hard for me to get so I figure I would post pictures to help the next guy out.
The outside of the door that the stainless steel is attached to actually has little hook claws that grab onto the inner black part of the door.
Check out the pictures:
Take the 3 little screws out of the side.
Then you need to pry the outside of the door from the inside of the door. The outside kind of snaps over the inside and stays in place with the little claws that snap into the holes.
I suggest using a butter knife to pry the outside up from the inside part a little then use a wooden paint stirrer or wooden shim to really pry it up and off. Using wood keeps you from marring the plastic. You have to get the hooks on the outside door up and over the holes on the inside part of the door. Do it one at a time and the door will come apart fairly easy.
After you done your work with installing the handle or whatever your doing, you can just shut the inside part of the door onto the main part of the microwave. After I did that, I just snapped the outside part back on.
Hope this helps someone else out there on the internets!
Thank you very much for such useful information and pictures.

I have KitchenAid KHMS147KSS with a broken handle. I followed the instructions on how to remove #2 and was successful to get it removed without breaking it. But the frustration came after that when i could not find any screws which hold the handle. They are obviously behind #4. And i was not able to even slightly shake it, it stays solid. Are there any ideas? it becomes really frustrated.
Thanks,
Yakov
Looks like you have to remove the outer door panel (#10) too as shown on the above pictures posted by ianfranklin.
Gene.
It actually did not come to frustration - I fixed it.
Thank you.
You are welcome. I’m glad you were able to fix it.
just bought the replacement handle for the GE Advantium SCA1001FSS.
After removing part# 1805 there is only access to the upper handle screw. The lower screw is behind a second inner panel. I removed the 6 screws from this inner panel, but I can’t get it to budge. It seems like a lot of people don’t have access to the 2nd(lower) screw. The advice I keep seeing is to look at the video (to remove the inner panel) which does not solve the problem. Any further input from the kind experts would be appreciated.
I’m having the same problem. The bottom screw is not accessible without removing #4. I tried this by removing the half dozen little screws that appeared to be holding it in, but it didn’t budge. I don’t want to break anything so help would be appreciated. It’s hard to see but it looks like the plastic things that were holding the [lastic liner that I removed to start may also be holding #4. If that is true, should the half dozen screws I mentioned also be removed or do they hold something else?
I too have a broken handle. It is broken at the top screw, which I can see from the back. The bottom screw is hidden. I would imagine the repair is similar, but I can’t get the frame off. Any suggestions?
The video clip on the second page of this thread might help.
You do have to be very careful, because the inner frame is plastic, but it should come off. Slide the table knife (or something similar) in every inch or so and pull the panel out.
This is the way to do it, promise
I’ve replaced dozens of handles myself.
I have a 5 year old Kitchenaid KHMS155L. I am now replacing the handle for the third time, and also just replaced the front door panel. After
“snapping” the front panel back onto the door, I first noticed the door handle was not screwed on tight enough. This replacement panel fits so tight that I cannot get it off again to tighten the handle screw. I tried your method, which was successful in removing the cracked door, but this time, it will not work. I am just gouging the inside of the door. Any further pressure will for sure crack the new outside panel. This door will not come off. Any suggestions?
Hopefully this Service manual will help.

According to the diagram the design of the door is pretty similar to the door shown in the clip on the page 2 of this thread.

Whirlpool gh4155xpso, the inner frame seems more rigid and less flexible than the video. Should I just stop being afraid of breaking it and force it, or is this model slightly different?

Thanks a lot Gene.
You are welcome Mike. Keep us posted.

Pictures helped. We used craft popcicle sticke when we seperated front and rear door. They were pushed in by plastic that held front and rear doors together. Thanks, Ray
I have tried to carefully follow the instructions given to get the frame piece (#2 in the diagram) from inside the frame but have only succeeded in cracking the outside face frame in that area where the three screws are. I got part of the inside frame off but of course it was the part toward the hinge end and not the handle end. Any suggestions? I have lived with the broken handle for about a year now. It is very disappointing.
