Microwave does not heat all else is ok

MIcrowave does not heat food and it makes a noise and there was a smell the light works the turntable turns any clues HELP:confused:

geo

Most likely the problem with your microwave is a shorted rectifier or a shorted magnetron tube.

  • The part number for the new rectifier is AP3772273.

  • The part number for the new magnetron tube is AP3769081.

Good luck.

some same problems.whilpool model mh7130xeq1 approx 8 yrs old. Power went out for one second, reset clock went to use later and find nothing would heat up every thing else works ok. Question is do I buy the high voltage transformer or magnetron unit. Both are about 140.00 each and I don’t want to quess. Can anyone help me here. Thanks:)

Hi Joe,

The first thing I would test is a secondary interlock switch (#2 on the latch board break down diagram)
If the switch is fine then the question is: does your microwave make any unusual noise?
If it does then most likely the problem is a shorted rectifier (#9 on the magnetron and the air flow break down diagram) or a shorted magnetron tube (#1 on the magnetron and the air flow break down diagram. If there is a continuity across the rectifier terminals (using a regular meter) - it has to be replaced.
If there is a continuity between any of the magnetron tube terminals and the body of the magnetron tube - it has to be replaced.
In case if the high voltage transformer shorted out, in most cases it should produce an electrical burning smell and a smoke.

Good luck.

I have a Kenmore Model # 721.80012401 with this same problem. I am guessing this pretty much applies. Is this correct. And If so does anyone know where I can find the diagram and Price for this model. Is this part hard to change? Would it just snap in or would I need special tools.

Thanks
Max

Hi trevlacxam

What part are talking about?
What exactly is wrong with your microwave?

All technical documentation for your Kenmore microwave should be behind the top panel or inside the control panel. If it’s not there, you can buy it from Sears only.

I think the problem with mine is the magnatron. for a kenmore microwave model # 721.80012401. I do not know waht that part # would be.

Hi trevlacxam

The part number for the magnetron 6324W1A001L and you can buy from Sears only.

The microwave will power up ok and table will turn it will just not heat up.

Whirlpool gold will not heat up otherwise everything works

Hi Joseph

What is the model number of your microwave?
Does it make any unusual noises?

Gene.

I think I have the same issue. My microwave worked fine but made a crackling sound for about two months and now it just stopped heating. Everything else works fine. Any ideas? Do you know the part number is for the magnetron tube for a GE Profile microwave model: JVM1861SD002

I have a Frigidaire Model GLMV168 with above symtoms. Everything works except heat. There is a burnt smell when you open the door.

Can you check any of the components inside with a multimeter ?

Frigidaire model GLMV168 will not heat. Everything else works and has a burnt smell

Yes my husband has a multi-meter

if you remove the control panel ( with power off, there should be some paperwork in an envelope ) it will tell you a little about the components inside .. need to check resistance of primary winding of High Voltage Transformer .. should also check High Voltage Capacitor as well … ( and can also check the Mag Tube as well .. ) this is not necessarily easy and should remember that HV Cap’s can store a lot of electricity so try to wear rubber gloves ( how old is unit ? ) sometimes it may be worth while calling a Frigi auth service tech ..

How do I access the things to check. Do I remove the Microwave from the wall hanger or can I access it from the front. What do I check once inside

open the mic oven door and you should see some screws on the side of the control panel ..

I just called a repairman. Thanks for your prompt replies.
