I have had this fridge for a while now, and use it as a beer/meat fridge in the basement. Around 2 months ago it started acting up where it wouldn’t cool. At that time I was out of town and have just gotten to looking at it. It has been unplugged for the past month.
This is a bottom freezer model.
Things I have checked so far:
- Lights - lights go off when door is closed. Checked switch by manually pressing as well.
- Doors and gaskets - doors are closing properly and the gaskets are closing fully and not torn
- Evaporator fan - evaporator is working and fan comes on as soon as fridge is plugged in.
- Frost free - don’t think frost free is an issue since the unit has been off for a while and no signs of frost exist.
- Compressor - sounds like its working (vibrating, with the familiar compressor sound) when turned on. Compressor doesn’t make sound if the start device is removed. The unit warms up on 30 min use, not at all unbearable to touch or anything, but guess it proves its working. Checked the resistance - 9, 5.6 and 3.4 between the 3 prongs.
- Compressor Start Device and cap - the unit wasn’t rattling when removed and shook around. No smell or looks of burning. The unit warms up a bit when under use. Checked the resistance - 6 for one pair (R and S), and none for the other pairs.
- Fans inside the unit - there is air coming from both the freezer and fridge vents. Its ever so slightly cooler than room temperature. Can’t remember if its weaker than when the unit was functioning normally, but its not super weak or anything.
- Condenser coils (back of the freezer wall) - opened it and saw it was clean.
Haven’t checked the temperature controls as haven’t been able to figure out how to remove them yet, but think that since the compressor comes on think its getting some signal(?). Help on next steps?
Let me know if you want pics of anything.
thanks
