Basically, the washer runs through its cycle just fine until the spin cycle is reached, at which point it will not advance cycles; it will continue agitating until the knob reaches “off”, at which point it turns off, even though it has not drained or run through the spin cycle.
However, if you wait until it reaches the spin cycle, and at any point you lift the lid and close it, the washer will then advance to the spin cycle and finish as it should, first draining the water then spinning. Another thing I will add is that there is no pause as the washer passes into the spin cycle on the dial. As could be expected, if the washer is simply started on the “spin” cycle it spins fine; there is no problem.
After reading other threads and searching around the web, it sounds like this is a problem with the timer; however, I have also read that the kind of timer this washer has (plastic cover) almost never fails and is almost always a misdiagnosis. So, I’d like some second opinions before I drop $70 on a new part, and if there’s any good way to test to see if it is indeed the timer that has failed, that would be appreciated as well. Thanks.
The motor in this washer is reversible. When it turns CW, the transmission agitates. In order to switch to drain and spin, the motor should stop and switch to CCW rotation. So, I believe the problem is a bad timer.
When you think about it, when it is unplugged, or turned off by the lid, or pushing in the knob, the one thing they all have in common is that the motor stops spinning. Then, it will spin or rinse.
It also stays the same when washing but doesn’t get stopped at the rinse cycle.
When the motor switches off, the centrifuge switch closes. When it gets up to speed, it opens. When closed, the brown wire is supposed to be connected to its input, and the green to its input. When it gets up to speed, this switch
goes the other way and (disconnects the brown wire) and switches to another
output.
What is probably happening is the centrifuge isn’t switching off. If fixed it by
bending the inside wire so it completely connects to the brown wire. (The other switch was ok.) There is nothing wrong with your cam switches!!!
Either bend the arms in the centrifuge switch so that the switches turn on and off, or go but another centrifuge switch.
