I have a Maytag washing machine that repeatedly stops during the spin cycle and requires rebalancing the load as much as 6 times during one cycle. What could be wrong? Is this something that I could easily repair?
I would remove the front panel screws and the front panel. I would look for busted springs or missing snubber pads under the dome that rests on the bottom.
If you see a lot of white shavings on the bottom, you have a worn snubber.
Thank you, Richappy
I did what you suggested and found the springs all OK and no white shavings. It seems to slide easily on the dome without any friction. I ran the washer without any clothes and the tub seems to be unbalanced more than I would expect. It vibrates about 1/2" even when empty. Is that normal? What else be wrong?
You need new friction pads that get glued on top of the base dome. You can go to www.applianceaid.com for info on this.
Order the pads AP4024203 comes with info and glue.
I would spread the springs with thick metal washers and remove. Put blocks under the tranny pulley to push up the tranny and expose the pads. Remove and install the new ones.
Thanks again, Richappy
I ordered the part as you suggested. It didn’t come with glue. Does it have to be special glue I order from the same company, or can I just get some from Home Depot that would work? I don’t want to use the wrong kind.
Regards,
Dexter
I would order the glue from the same company. I would think a fast setting epoxy would work if you want to go with that option.
my washer was so out of balance that i was going to buy a new washer.
Just before i left to home depot i decided to take off the outside cabinet.
Right before my eyes was a retaining clip and washer that had worked its way loose off the idler pulley.
I found a schematic online that confirmed this belonged to the washer and and it wasn’t something random from my garage.
I spent the next 2 hours busting my knuckles and trying to trying to make an alternative to retaining clip pliers…then i finally got it.
Its been working smoothly now.
