Maytag washer MHW5500FW1 User Interface or Control Unit

On/Off does not work. Only way to turn on machine is to rotate the mode selector. Accepts user input while randomly changing other options. Also acts like the Delay Start button is constantly pressed cycling thru 1hr -12hr delay steps. Quickly pushing Start cycle then may begin beeping trying to change options, may finish cycle or not.

no error codes

Unplugged did not reset. Removed and inspected the User Interface, wiped down but was clean and dry, no improvement. The Diagnostic mode has two methods of initiating, using the Spin Soil and Temperature buttons or rotating the dial CCW and CW. Both methods could not reach Diagnostic mode.
Really trying to determine replace User Interface or Control Unit?

To activate Service diagnostics for model#MHW5500FW1: See the following:

ACTIVATING SERVICE DIAGNOSTIC MODE

  1. Be sure the washer is in standby mode
(plugged in with all indicators off).

  2. After initial power is applied, wait
    30 seconds before activating Service
    Diagnostic mode.

  3. Select any three (3) buttons (except
POWER) and follow the steps below, using
the same buttons. Remember the buttons
and the order that the buttons were pressed.
    Within 8 seconds,
    • Press and Release the 1st selected button,
    • Press and Release the 2nd selected button,
    • Press and Release the 3rd selected button;
    • Repeat this 3 button sequence 2 more times.

  4. If the Service Diagnostic mode has been
entered successfully, all indicators on the
console are illuminated for 5 seconds with
“888” or “88” showing in the Estimated Time
    Remaining (Whirlpool) or Estimated Cycle
    Time (Maytag) seven-segment display. If
there are no saved fault codes, all indicators
on the console will momentarily turn off,
and then only the seven-segment display
will come back on and display “888” or “88”.
NOTE: The Service Diagnostic mode will time
out after 10 minutes of user inactivity, or shut
down if AC power is removed.

Thank you for the more descriptive process for getting into Diagnostic Mode. Repeating the steps 5 times in slightly different ways over thirty minutes did not work due to the reasons in the initial post. I do not like the site but someone in JustAnswer.com had very similar problems and was told to buy a User Interface. A little more research then I will take a shot one way or the other by the end of the day. Thanks
